FAQs
How long is the delivery process once I’ve ordered?
All of our rope is hand-dyed in small batches with each piece going through at least three quality control measures and a finishing process. Please allow a minimum of 10 business days for production, not including US Federally observed holidays.
All orders ship from North Carolina, US. Orders shipped via USPS Ground Advantage generally have a transit time of 2 to 5 business days, though timing can vary due to a number of factors.
Please note: International orders must pass through your local customs office before delivery. Customs officials in your country determine how long an item remains in customs, whether it is subject to quarantine, and what tariffs or VAT apply. These fees and timelines vary by country and shipment, and are the sole responsibility of the recipient. Dyes That Bind has no control over this process, is not responsible for any customs, tariff, or VAT fees, and cannot expedite or alter your order once it has entered your country.

Can you tell me about customs and international shipping?
All international orders must pass through the destination country’s customs office before delivery. Customs authorities determine how long a package may be held, whether it requires additional inspection or quarantine, and if any import duties, VAT, or other fees apply. These charges are not included in your purchase total and are the responsibility of the recipient. Customs processing times vary by country and may occasionally cause delays outside of our control, so we recommend checking your local import regulations before placing an order to avoid surprises.
These policies vary by country and even by shipment. Unfortunately, Dyes That Bind has no control over this process and cannot expedite or modify your order once it has entered your country.
How do I wash my rope?
Nylon is extremely easy to care for! Daisy chain (for less tangle) or simply throw it in a mesh garment bag or pillow case and into your washing machine. Use cold water with your detergent of choice. Mild detergent for “colors” is generally best. Hang to dry, as the clothing dryer can cause it to stiffen.
I would like to cut my rope into a different length, how do I make sure the ends don’t fray?
To make a clean edge, wrap the rope with masking or electrical tape around the area you want to cut. Simply cut it with safety shears or sharp scissors. Then, melt the ends with a lighter or hot knife. Do NOT touch it while it is hot! Alternatively, you can simply cut the rope without taping it and use a hot knife or soldering iron to cauterize the cut to create a clean finish.
Can I request custom colors?
Yes! Please fill out the contact form with your ideas and we would love to collaborate to create the rope of your dreams. Base price for custom multi-color rope is $75 flat fee and a minimum of 5-30 foot lengths (roughly $150 worth), which can be cut in any length you desire. How much rope do I need?
Traditional Japanese bondage uses 21 ft lengths, though Western influence has adjusted this to fit different body shapes. If you are new to tying, you may want to consider starting with a The amount of rope you’ll need depends on both the type of tie you want to create and the body of the person being tied.
The following guidelines can help you choose an appropriate length:
Chest ties and hip harnesses:
Measure around the fullest part of the hips. A good rule of thumb is to have approximately six times that measurement in rope length.
Full-body harnesses:
Measure from the shoulder, down between the legs, and back up to the shoulder to create a continuous loop. Full-body harnesses typically require six to seven times this measurement.
Wrist or ankle cuffs:
A 15 feet length is great for basic cuffs. Though depending on what you want to tie the cuff to, you may need more rope. For example, a 15 foot length could be used to tie a cuff to a bed post, but would not be enough to tie to a structure under the bed.
